![]() Subverted when, in a real context, the relationship between Tenpenny and CJ seems to be a scene of Evil Versus Evil, since in many missions he hints at having Tenpenny committed horrendous acts (in the mission "Riot" is believed to be blamed to rape). In short, he could be trying to eliminate the gangsters from the streets, who are the real villains in their interpretation. Some see him as a kind of Hero Antagonist, and why? Los Santos's criminals are completely out of control, and playing them against one another may be the only way to keep the violence down. And there is the case of Officer Frank Tenpenny. Is Sweet a Jerkass who ran his brother out of town, blaming him for his little brother's death, and disrespects said brother for trying to get his family out of the ghetto instead of acknowledging that the glory days are long gone and is ungrateful for CJ both getting him out of jail and making something of himself instead of staying in Grove and deserves everything he gets, or a stand-up guy who cares deeply about his home, family and friends, and wants to get everything back to what it was in the good old days and ends up in a deep pile of crap he didn't deserve because of it? This video analyzes his attitude.Others find his reprehensible acts (he kills people for a living, he ruined Madd Dogg's life to help his asshole friend) too much. Some people consider his Pet the Dog moments (such as his love for his sister, his friendships with various characters, his desire to clean up the streets from drugs and his general tendency to help people in need) to be enough to make him a good person doing bad things. Others view him as just as much a monster as every other GTA protagonist. Some view him as an ultimately good person who has to do bad things to help the people he loves. Is CJ a good person? CJ is a divisive character, due to his more anti heroic attributes.Pretty much the only reason why it doesn't appear to be an intended aesop is that Sweet's borderline abusive relationship with CJ isn't really treated as such in the game itself, with Sweet being Unintentionally Unsympathetic to many. It's not hard to see the whole thing as a lesson about toxic family relationships, and how trying to please a Jerkass family member who keeps acting like your accomplishments don't matter is not a healthy thing to do, no matter how important they are to you. Accidental Aesop: While Sweet is in prison, CJ becomes a genuinely successful person with his own goals, motivations and methods but once his brother comes back to his life, CJ starts regressing to being "Sweet's little brother" again and keeps doing what he asks for. ![]()
