: Supervision competence of principalis one of the factors that affects the increase of teacher professionalism. This study was aimed at describing: (1) the competence of principal in preparing the academic supervision program to improve the professionalism of teachers, (2) the competenceof principal in implementing the academic supervision program to improve the professionalism of teachers, and (3) the competence of principal in following up the results of academic supervision to improve the professionalism of teachers. This research used descriptive method with qualitative approach. The tehniques of data collection were conducted through observation, interview, and documentation study. The subjects of the research were principal, vice-principal, teachers and school supervisors. The results showed that: (1) The principalof SMA Negeri 1 Kuala Batee Aceh Barat Daya district has demonstrated a good supervision competence, particularly in preparing the academic supervision programs for the teachers. It can be seen from supervision program that has been prepared by setting goals, objectives, and implementation procedures of supervision, but it was still less cooperation with the school supervisors.(2) ) The principalof SMA Negeri 1 Kuala Batee Aceh Barat Dayaregency has demonstrated a good supervision competence, particularly in implementing the academic supervision.It can be seen from the implementation of models, approaches, and techniques of supervisionhave been conducted,but the implementation of observation techniques have not been equipped with observation guide and (3) Supervision competence of the principal of SMA Negeri 1 Kuala Batee Aceh Barat Daya district particularly in following up the results of supervision was still less. It can be seen from the follow up of the supervision conducted by evaluating and providing feedback through individual talk with the teachers supervised, but the principal did not draw up an action plan for the next supervision.

Abstract
The principal is the school leader, the progress of a school depends on it. Theprincipal has so many tasks that the school can move forward. One of the effortsmade is to maintain quality and continue to improve it. The real quality that a schoolhas is a teacher, without a professional teacher the school will have difficulty havingan achievement. Therefore, the principal's implementation in increasing hisprofessionalism is through academic supervision. Academic supervision conductedby the principal is expected to be able to help and develop the professionalism of theexisting teachers.When viewed from its orientation supervision is divided into 3 types, namely:academic supervision, administrative supervision and agency supervision. TheDirectorate General of Quality Improvement of Education and Education Personnel(PMPTK) explains that academic supervision is a coaching activity by providingtechnical assistance to teachers in implementing the learning process, which aims toimprove the professional abilities of teachers and enhance learning.Without the implementation of academic supervision, teachers of Islamicreligious education will feel bored in undergoing their profession. Boredom comesbecause in carrying out a series of professional tasks experiencing the sameconditions over and over again so that teacher professionalism decreases and tendsnot to be directed.The problem examined in this study is how the implementation of supervisionof school principals as an effort to improve the professionalism of PAI teachers inSMA Negeri 1 Surakarta and whether the supervision carried out by school principalscan increase the professionalism of PAI teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta. Thepurpose of this study is to describe the implementation of supervision of schoolprincipals in an effort to improve the professionalism of teachers in SMA Negeri 1Surakarta and to describe the implementation of supervision by principals to improvethe professionalism of PAI teachers at SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta. This research is afield research using a type of qualitative research. The methods used are interviews,observation, and documentation.The results of this study can be concluded that the implementation of thesupervision program begins with the planning, implementation, evaluation ofsupervision results and follow-up. The increase in teacher professionalism can beknown from changes in pedagogical competence, personality, professionalism, andsocial teacher. Supervision uses a collaborative approach. The techniques used areindividual techniques and group techniques. The supervision model applied is thescientific supervision model.
